Our Story:
What’s your kitchen like? Mine is an L-shaped counter space that rattles when the R train pulls out of 45th Street Brooklyn. It is a very different kitchen than the one in this play. I suppose that means I escaped, at least temporarily, the kitchen that haunts these pages. The kitchen of this play is now a dumping ground for barrier creams and rollators and old prescriptions with long names. No one eats there anymore because of all the TV tables in the living room, and the hospital bed we had installed for my father after the last surge of the disease.
Some rooms carry histories we can’t take back. We don’t like to think of them like that, and we don’t usually get jealous of these inanimate spaces, but perhaps we should. Kitchens last longer and hold up better than the people who own them. Lord knows, our family kitchen still smells the same after 25 years, and I’m pretty damn sure I won’t be lucky enough to keep my odor for much longer than a decade. So here’s to the kitchen smell, and to the luck we all have for being alive to experience its scent. While there’s a chance the fiction of this play lies in us being able to sit at our table for dinner, at least we have that smell… albeit one room over.
Where's my money going?

Set: $500
Costumes: $200
Light, Set, and Sound Design: $300
Rehearsal space: $1000
The Impact On Us
The Kitchen Play is a privately produced and lovingly collaborative piece. Your contributions will allow us to not only produce this production, but help set us up for future performances. Our dream is to one day see this play with a full kitchen set, and your support of this production, will bring us one step forward to that dreams.
The Impact On Others
All extra funds for this project will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. For more information on MDA, please visit: http://mda.org/
As The Kitchen Play deals with the effects of illness on families, we will be making a contribution to this important cause in the hopes that we can better the futures of all who suffers from the effects of this disease.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you cannot contribute much money or none at all, please feel free to copy this link and share with your friends. Please note: the best contribution of all is seeing the play itself. A full house is the best gift of all!
